
On January 4th 2005 the
Orchestra Sinfonica de Galiçia, one of the leading orchestras
in Spain, are set to perform of concert of music by Irish composer,
Bill Whelan, in the Palacio de la Opera of La Coruña.
The main event of the evening will be a full performance of The
Seville Suite (Kinsale to La Coruña), conducted by Proinnsias
ODuinn. Performed in La Coruña for the first time,
it will feature Irish soloists, Zoë Conway, Eilis Egan, Robbie
Harris and Declan Masterson. Also performing on the evening will
be renowned Galiçian musicians, Rodrigo Romani, Nando Casal
and X Ferreiros, who were part of the original performance and
recording. The Seville Suite was inspired by the exploits of Red
Hugh ODonnell from the Battle of Kinsale until his arrival
in Galiçia to the welcome of the Spanish Earl of Caraçena.
The Concert will also feature 'Inishlacken', a concerto for two
violins and chamber orchestra in 3 movements with soloists Fionnuala
Hunt and Zoë Conway and an orchestral version of 'Riverdance',
the main theme to Riverdance the Show will also be featured.
The concert is the closing event for the Orchestra Sinfonicas
annual Christmas programme presented in conjunction with Fundación
Pedro Barrié de la Maza.
