Emma Kate Tobia was born in Scotland, her family moved to Westport, Co. Mayo where a diligent teacher instilled in her the love of Irish. While studying in the Cork School of Music, she won numerous competitions such as the Lieder Cup, the Operatic Cup, the O'Shea Perpetual Cup and the Margaret Dillon Award at Feis Maitiú. Opera South and then Opera Cork gave her a start in the world of Opera with a number of prestigious roles.
Emma Kate then joined with Dr Veronica Dunne in Dublin to pursue a full time singing career. Master classes in Vienna for two summers and then a number of solo recitals in the Arts Center throughout Ireland, as well as Summer Concerts of Irish traditional and Classical Music in Kinsale led to the recording of Aisling na nGael.
